Six four-man teams of sailors were able to test out Porto’s four new 8ft Blu26 boats while their family, friends and guests enjoyed the hospitality program at the premier lifestyle destination in the Adriatic.
This three-day match race gathered representatives of some of the most prestigious European clubs including Gstaad Yacht Club, Bayern Yacht Club and the Royal Southampton Yacht Club. Representatives from Montenegro included the Skver team from Herceg Novi and the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club.
Outside of the heated competition and the glorious summer weather, participants had the opportunity to explore the Bay of Kotor for themselves, relax poolside at the 64metre Purobeach pool during the day and enjoy various social events around Porto Montenegro Village in the evenings.
The final day’s award ceremony was held during a spectacular sunset on the top terrace of Purobeach, a fitting end to such a successful event. The Bayern Yacht Club won 1st place while Skver took 2nd and Porto Montenegro came 3rd. Marina Director Tony Browne led the award ceremony, presenting each team with unique amphora trophies handmade by Slaby, a local art studio.
To encourage the endeavors of two young sailors named Igor Les and Matija Grabić from Tivat, Adriatic Marinas has agreed to support Delfin Yacht Club with a donation of EUR 5000. The sailors are already winning European races in the laser radial class and are expected to reach even greater heights in the near future.
“Financial support was essential for us to successfully round off the sailing year and try to win the European Cup in the Under-19s category. The funds donated to us by Adriatic Marinas will support us in those competitions and provide for the purchase of various important sails and masts," says the club's sailing coasch, Ilko Klakor.
At the series of races in Lugano, Italy, Igor Les placed 1st overall with his teammate Matija Grabić in 3rd. Matija also won 2nd place in the Under-19s category.
“We are currently 3rd and 4th in the Euroleague out of around 500 contenders from all over Europe. We have three more races, and we both have a chance to qualify in the top three," says Igor Les.
“We compete in the elite races, we set ourselves clear objectives and with more good results we hope to show the sports public and Montenegrin institutions that support us exactly what we are capable of," adds Matija Grabić.
Adriatic Marinas and Porto Montenegro Sports Club will continue to support talented athletes from Tivat, helping to ensure they achieve their full potential.
